Me and a buddy are thinking about heading up to Mantua for an all-nighter. I was just wondering if anyone has ever fished there at night and had any luck? I realize that the chances of us catcing any gills or perch is slim to none but I have fished for trout at night and been successful at strawberry. We both start night shift tomorrow and need to stay up tonight and i figured what better way then a little ice fishing. any advice would be great.

It has been hit and miss at Mantua lately. The east side was pounded REAL hard over the weekend as was the boat ramp area. If you go, try and find a deep area that has had little pressure on it. There are still some soft spots so be careful. Good luck![fishin]

Fishooker hit it one evening a week or two ago from just before dark until about 10:30 that night. He said he and a friend left with around 15 (if I remember correctly) gills and few rainbows. They fished back toward the east side. Let me know how it goes. I might be out there Wednesday evening with another buddy. Good luck!!

[#0000ff]I have caught bluegills at night in a lot of waters. A black jig seems to be more productive at times, but small glow goodies work well too.[/#0000ff]

From what I've seen (on camera) those danged perch at Mantua don't bite during the day either!
They peck, nibble, nudge, taunt, push, tease, but they don't BITE. Though if you get them worked up enuf (vigorous jigging)- they might attack enuf to yank your bait off just to give you something to do.
Gotta stay active to stay warm on the ice. [:/]
Had a bass getting pretty friendly and frisky with my camera too. Busy watching a school of perch, and he kept knocking it around for me. Funneeee.

I went up there a few weeks ago and tried it. And couldn't get anything to bite. We showed fish on the flasher but couldn't get them to bite. I did pull up a few damsel flies on the camera really cool to see them move in the water. I would like to figure out how to fish at night because I would like to fish more during the week after work. I put together some sweet lights on my sled that work great. But burbot are the only fish I have caught with any success at night.

well we gave it a shot and didnt manage even a nibble. We tried in 10 feet of water as well as about 17. I wanted to try some other spots on the lake but with it being about 5 degrees neither of us felt like leaving the comfort of our tent. with the cold weather we have been having lately the thickness of the ice has increased alot since friday. We had over 10 inches of ice with about 3 of it frozen slush. thanks for the advice everyone. All and all we still had fun despite the lack of fish activity.
