Deer Creek 1/22/2011

Took the wife and kids out to DC island area Saturday for their first ice fishing ever. Met up with my cousin and her hubby and one of their sons, as well as my buddy and his wife and their two girls.

Arrived about 11:45am weather was not so good and a steady breeze kept it "cool" out on the ice. Set up my quickfish3 for the first time and it worked like a charm, stopped the kids complaining from the get go.LOL. my cousin set up the quickfish 6 and we had us a hotel 250-300 yard out from the main boat ramp at the island.

we drilled 10 holes, my cousins hubby bought a new eskimo "Mako" 10 inch auger on the way up. I know what my next purchase will be[Wink] after I pounded 4 holes out with my hand auger he finished up the other 6. I dont know how many he drilled in his shack.

water was 53 feet deep and 32 degrees on arrival, went up to 41 by the time we left at about 4pm or so. marked a ton of fish on the finder within the 12 to 39 foot depth range. My buddy was able to talk one rainbow about 20 inches into biting, the rest of us got the big stink eye for the trip.

BUT the kids are excited to go do it again, they had a bunch of fun playing on the ice and pulling each other around in the sleds...go figure. maybe the next trip we take will be up to pineview for some perch action, small fish are waaaay better than no fish. trust me.

all in all, a nice day out. the "W" stopped around 2 and the sun showed up for about an hour before we left so we had some good times chatting it up and trying to find something the fish would want. I had a few bumps on a crawler tipped ice fly, but that was it.

just need to go out and get this stink off my ice gear now so i can say i caught some more fish!!

tight lines.
