Went to EC this morning because it was a nice day and it was close. Ice is plenty thick, edges were hard, and the sun was out. So were the people, lots of them. Absolutely nailed the bows, I was fishing two poles and couldn't keep up with them. I am impressed with the size of the fish we got today, the fish are definitely healthy. A couple of guys were watching me in the morning and just shaking their heads watching me try and keep up. Unfortunately they didn't have the same luck, and fishing looked pretty slow for them. Couldn't ask for better weather or day of fishing. Hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the day.[cool]

I was up there today as well a little slow early then about 930 or so until about 1 we were catching or had alot of swing and misses between the 7 of us. Heading back in the morning to try to get back on them

I was up there yesterday with my Grandson and my son, we on the east side fishing below the Restrooms. Fished in about 20-25 ft water , a lot of folks were kill'in them . We couldn't get much action at all. I was told that Powerbait was the key to sucess, Are there any other ideas or combos that work ? I just want to show my Grandson a good time on the ice.

Well you were right where I was then, never used any power bait. I actually caught fish on every different lure and jig I tried. I used to believe power bait was the key up there but that is certainly not the case. It seems every time I fish there are small spots that everyone piles into, there is plenty of water. My advice don't fish on top of someone and move away from the crowds and you will have more success. That seems to be the "key" at every water hole I fish.

AFDan, I assume with a name like that you are a serviceman. For that I thank you and appreciate all the armed forces do. Therefore, PM me and I'll tell you exactly what I used, and I'll repeat it's not powerbait. It just amazes me at these waters. As I was leaving a gentleman and 3 young ladies were coming in. I told him what holes I had just left and there were 4 that I drilled that they were welcome to use and there were certainly fish in them. As I looked back they had set up right next to everyone else and were fishing and didn't take me up on the offer. What a head scratcher.

Thanks for your help, I will PM you. We were setup close to the trail comming down from the parking lot. Don't know what time you left, but we had the 2 kids that were sleeping on the ice that everyone was getting a chukkle out of.

Have any of you guys seen any bad ice areas at east Canyon? I have heard from two different people that there was open water around the edges in places and I also heard someone fell through over by the dam last week.
I assume that is all just rumors but you never know I guess.

There are a few areas along the bank line where runoff from melting snow enters the water that can make for weak edges but iv never found any major problems. I fell in over my head by the dam three years ago but it was in late march and the ice conditions were in the iffy stage.

Not saying that what people were saying isn't true but I have a hard time believing anyone fell through the ice. It was solid and so are the edges I was on anyway. There is one little spot of open water that I could see, but if you fall through that you aren't paying attention to anything.

I agree I was on the East side by the Restrooms and the ice and edges were just fine.

Alright, that's what I would have guessed. I didn't really believe there was any open water or thin ice where guys were falling in. I was there just about 3 weeks ago and the ice was good, so I figured what I heard was just rumors.

I fished it Sat and Sunday no problems with the ice other then a little soft coming off. Caught alot of fish both days, there were certain times there were as many as 4 poles getting hit at once. Best 2 days I have ever had up there with just about any kind of bait or lures.

I was on the far east side in the cove about half way out towards the main lake. I had the Red Eskimo up there were about 7 of us including 2 kids that kept going up and sledding on the hill

Man I bet you was warm inside a tent. I was in a long sleeve shirt and still hot. My lucky coat was busted on the zipper when I showed up in the morning, good thing I didn't need it. Don't get many days like that on the hard deck.
