SW FL Onshore Report
#1
Hi All,

A group of friends and I fished out of Marco on Sunday, August 31st, aboard the Wild Thing with Captain Randy Hamilton (http://www.wildthingcharters.com).

Although the wind was up (10-15 kts), we had a great day fishing just off of Marco Island. With six guys on board and one cast net full of threads/pilchards, I was busy helping Capt. Hamilton take fish off the lines and re-tackle leaders and hooks. The spanish mackerel bite was on for a good 2 hours, and after taking enough for dinner, I would imagine we caught and released nearly 100 fish over the 4 hour charter.

We used light spinning tackle with live pilchards, and the macks just wouldn't quit. These were impressive fish, as well, much larger than the normal summer macks, so on the light tackle, they were a good fight.

There had been some cobia in the area the day before (Capt. Hamilton had landed a 50 lb cobia the day before), so we had a few pins working on bigger rods, but the the only threat of a bigger fish was a medium sized stingray that took one of the bottom baits.

Overall, we had a great time, and we'll do it again soon.

Good fishing everyone!

John
