The Southern Nevada Chapter of Trout Unlimited will meet again on Thursday, September 4, at 7 pm in the State Parks Conference Room at NDOW on Vegas Drive (about a mile north of the Meadows Mall). This meeting will include a report on our conservation program (Great Basin National Park), a discussion of the upcoming fundraiser in Ely, and our guest speaker, Kevin Hutchinson.
Kevin is the owner of Hill Country Flyfishers, a guiding, commercial fly tying, and instructional company based in Austin, Texas. Along with running his business, Kevin has also published many articles on fly tying and fishing in the Texas hill country in national magazines including the latest issue of Southwest Fly Fishing.
As a former member of the A.K. Best fly tying pro staff and past winner of “Teacher of the Year” for the Southern Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers, Kevin is at home teaching what he loves best — fly fishing and fly tying. This love for teaching landed him a five-year position with the national 4-H Sportfish training staff as well as an instructor position with Texas Parks and Wildlife's Becoming an Outdoors Woman program. Kevin has taught fly casting, fly tying, and outdoor photography for the B.O.W. program for almost seven years .
Kevin is a Federation of Fly Fishers certified casting Instructor as well as being a Master Angler Instructor for Texas Parks and Wildlife. He also serves on the International Educational Advisory Board for the Cortland Company and is the founder of Central Texas Fly Fishers based in San Marcos, Texas.
If there is one belief that is apparent in everything that Kevin does, it is that the process of learning never ends and that the process should be fun.
Kevin will speak to us about all the fishing opportunities in Texas. In addition, he's bringing his fly tying tools and supplies to show us some tricks, and he's bringing a bunch of flies for our auction.
This meeting will be absolutely stuffed with information, so don't miss it.
