Portneuf and Bear Rivers
#1
The weather was lousy for so long, it sure made me appreciate today. It was blindingly beautiful out. Sunshine and NO wind! The road was still a bit snowy and slick though.

I went and did a little exploring of spots and holes on the Portneuf and Bear Rivers. All of the bugs must have been waiting for the weather to get nice before they hatched also, because there were a million midges coming off the water this afternoon.

It was just a perfect day to be out on the water.

The fish were feeding on the surface all over the place. Lucky for me they weren't too picky. I just had to get my fly to the right area when the fish would come up for another mouthful. Oddly enough a Renegade seemed to work the best for me today. Probably because I couldn't see the other smaller midges I had been using!![crazy]

These guys sure were healthy and fat!

All I have left to say about today is that it was completely awesome, and I can't keep the Smile off my face!

Thanks for sharing! How cool! Not only was it a beautiful, sunny day (a break from what we've been having) but you were able to throw dries to rising fish. I'm very jealous...!

I hate to admit this but I am starting to get tired of ice fishing. Your post just reminded me of the next season. I have been making a list of every creek that I want to hit this summer. My problem is that I am tied up most every weekend for the next two months. Then the water gets high and muddies up. So I won't be on the small rivers and creeks until July. Thanks for letting us live vicariously through your pics.

Great day yesterday. No doubt about it. Isn't if funny how a day like yesterday feels almost tropical at this time of year but throw us that kind of day in September or even October and it is just plain cold.
