Jeremy,
Drive the extra 1 1/2 hours to C.J Stirke out. We know they are there! American falls area has them! But, I am afraid people around there are tight lipped. I have heard great stories. That is it, good luck my friend. Take them to Salmon area instead.

Are you planning on bank fishing or fishing from a boat?

we will be bank fishing due to I really don't want to put my boat in there and sink it!! Because all I have is a fiberglas boat! But we went monday and got skunked bad!! Well my brother caught one ok sized bow.. But my dad and myself were skunked bad!! All I really want to know is what is the best bait to use! And what general area could I possibly find them... I mean I'm sure I could find out myself in time but would greatly apreciate it for some help on this...

Check out the old Jared Scott programs.
There is one where they get a sturgeon right below the dam .

I believe the year round catch and release regulation below the A.F. dam is "no-bait" which puts the dampers on sturgeon fishing. I have heard of people baiting sturgeon with multiple worm globs but more traditionally use dead trout or other small fish (8 to 12" usually). Sometimes people get their bait at the hatchery where the dead trout can be had for free. Those holes that DF mapped below Eagle Rock are legal this time of year. A little downstream of there and maybe 100 yards downstream of the rest area, on the corner, I notice a hole about 100 feet deep on my fish finder. Bank access looked gnarly but possible.

You can run a prop boat all the way up to eagle rock without much problem but you have to be careful the last 3 blocks or so if the water is low. I have seen several places on the way up towards eagle rock that i think would be good. If you want to get serious about sturgeon fishing maybe look at the hagerman or bliss area not much further and quite a few big fish. even buggs hole below twin is good fishing. I have used trout smelt pickled herring squid crappie crawdads but my favorite is big old night crawler threaded on. you get hits from other fish too but when all the other baits fail that will get you a fish. Dont be afraid to set the hook on little nibbles for a fish so big and in heavy current i have no idea how they can be so delicate

below american falls dam is catch and release oct 16 till memorial day no bait, barbless, limit is zero on all species. I thought about having flygoddess build me a big chicken fly for below the dam. don't now if a sturgeon would go for it though

Where it is no bait I wonder if somthing like the gulp minnow would work ? If it had strong enough scent Im sure it would bring a bite I rember back when i first started fishing I bought a couple books and one thing it talked about in there was using rags that had been soaked in scent for a few days or wd40

It seems the scented baits are lumped in with "bait" on artifical only waters anymore.
That was my first thought years ago when the stuff in the bottle came out I thought just squeeze it on a lure. Thinking more about Yellowstone back then. I am sure most have thought that too but anymore in the regulations it is pretty specific that the scented baits aren't allowed in artificials only waters anywhere I have checked recently. It got defined when the baits got popular a while back.
