I'm heading out tomorrow just don't know which direction to head. Anyone have any suggestions? I need to get my wife hooked up with a steelhead. She's been skunked the last few times out and I can't let here get too discouraged. That could potentially cut my fishing time in half. Any updates would be appreciated.

Just got back last night from above Challis. We fished Squaw creek hole and another 5 miles above. My son, son-in-law and I hooked 30 and landed 18 all day Friday and Saturday. Roe is always my favorite, but the boys did well with a single orange bead. Expect to catch 70% wild fish, but the occasional hatchery fish makes the trip worthwhile. We brought home 5. It is still early, but there are fish there. I even caught my first steelie on a flyrod in 18" of water. The fish seem to be moving upstream slowly. I don't fish any single spot for more than a couple of casts - keep moving to new water. Good luck!!

That 30 on 18 landed report is a 3 man, 2 day total right?? At first glance, it looked like 2 of you hooked 30 in one day, and I was about to pack my bag and head for Challis! I can get there in 4 hrs vs. 6 down the canyon. My dad and 5 other guys have been down the canyon since Friday and had only caught 1 as of yesterday. [crazy] Kind of surprised me. . .

Thanks for the report. I decided to wait a week so hopefully there will be a few more fish moving through. Congrats on the fly rod. I haven't tried the fly rod for steelhead but have thought about it.

That's not too bad of a day. I was thinking about hitting the Little Salmon. Did you try it at all? See anybody there? I was a little worried about all the rain we have had. I didn't want to waste my time driving up there and see the Little river running up next to the road. I just didn't know how much rain they have received.

Well, the little river was not up to the road but it was running pretty brown..There were a lot of people on it. Like a butt load...
Everyplace you had to pull over had several vehicles/camps.
The big river water was a little cloudy pretty much clear and easy to fish from the bank or boat.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like I may just have to take the boat up.
