Brownlee
#1
anyone hit Brownlee yet or anytime recently?

The wife and I are planning our annual "return home" trip in May. We'll be staying at Woodhead and cant wait to hit the crappie. what's the outlook for bass this year? i have fished it for 20 years and it seems the bass and crappie cycle over and over. some years it's 10 inch crappie by the hundreds, but then there is that one off year when you catch 15-16 inch crappie all day. Same thing with the bass. a bazzilion 10 inchers, and that one off year where you seem to catch every 14 incher in the river.

Depending on the weather we plan on doing at least one day boat trip all the way down to Mt Man, crappie point, the hay fields and the like, but plan on spending most of the time further north. and if i have my way about it, we'll load up, drive down and launch on the oregon side and bass fish Oxbow.

I haven't been and probably won't even get there until mid May myself, we will be staying at Woodhead around the 18th.
We just bought a new house a few days ago so I've delayed some planned trips this month.
As far as reports, I've been hearing some okay reports. Crappie in the 11-12 inch class, even heard of one group that only kept the 12's or larger and still filled a bucket in a few hours. Bass I can't really say, tournament last weekend had some good results.

Here's hoping for a great crappie year, if their 12 inches now, this fall they should be really nice and chunky.

I'm with you EZOP, I want to get over to Brownlee, too. It may be a while before Brownlee is ready with the snow pack we have and it starts filling back up. I'm worried about the spawn this year. If it starts filling up too fast we may not get a spawn this year from the bass or the crappie.

Are there any ramps in the water yet? I heard that even the woodhead ramp was out of the water.

BTW Bob I bought me a little bass boat! A 93 17ft Nitro with a 115 Evinrude. this is my third Bass boat. I haven't had one since about 2004 so I am Jacked!

I heard that you have to use the old ramp at Woodhead.

Congrats on the new bass boat. I really like the older Nitro's. One of our members in one of the clubs I was in had one and I loved the deep maroon color on it. Really a classy looking boat.

Thanks Bob. She is a good looker for sure. Mine is some kinda blue color. I will try to post a pic of her this weekend. I hope to have it out for a shake down cruise at Lake Lowell next weekend.

The old ramp at woodhead is gravel is it not? steep?

I fished a tournament there a little over a week ago. I have never personally seen the water that low before. We had to use the old ramp at Woodhead and even then we were beyond the ramp and in mud to launch. The ramp is concrete most of the way down. Not sure where the water is right now.

You can get Brownlee boat ramp information from Idaho Power's website:

Tournament was ok.. Terrible weather - Major wind gusts. had waves coming over the bow of the boat and half the time I was battling the wind rather than fishing it seemed. My partner is my 12 year old son - we are just a couple rookies looking for fun - we were only able to catch one fish we could weigh - the rest were either Crappie (HUGE crappie hitting our bass gear) or smaller smallies. There were a couple other boats that had similar luck as us and a few that were able to cull fish... We were using bass jigs and plastics mostly and its sounded like the guys that did the best were using cranks.
