Looked like a decent day to catch a fish. I was going to fish below the spillway and tried for a bit but the water was moving soooo fast. Next i went to the turbines and water was running tooo fast again. ok i will fish the top of the dam. I parked the truck and started walking and it is closed off. i have never seen it closed before. I went and fished the docks for a bit and nothin. Great day to be out and had a little fun. First time in a while where i got skunked. When i go back i will be fishing for revenge.
If you are at the bottom of the dam looking up the second gate on the left was a bit open and water was flowing well.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty sure they are letting the water loose for the big snow runoff. The spillway bridge is going to be closed through June 30th. Here's the story-http://www.mountainhomenews.com/story/1714258.html
You didn't take the dam cutoff road did you? I haven't been on it since they rebuilt it.

The road is great. Wish it was paved the whole way, but even the parts that weren't paved have been vastly improved. They scraped it the whole way, so there's no more washboard effect.
I'm curious whether they will finish the project this year.

Shoot, I thought they were going to pave it the whole way. You mean it's paved in certain places and others it's not? Well I'll have to go check it out. Thanks.

it's not a bad drive. I think it shaves off some time. I heard they ran out of money but don't know for sure. hopefully they do pave it this year

I assume you're talking about the Strike Dam road off of the Grandview Hwy. When I was on it last year, I measured almost exactly 3 miles left to pave. All the hard parts are done like down the hill. Just the first part is left when you turn off the Hwy. I heard they were suppose to finish it this year. It saves a bunch of driving time and I have no qualms dragging my bass boat over the 3 miles of dirt. It is very smooth, just a little dusty.

Just remember to stay on your side of the road when approaching hills. Most of the way you can see the road for a few hundred yards, but there are a few unpaved spots where you can't clearly see if another vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction. Since there are no markings on the unpaved stretches, people tend to drive in the middle to avoid sliding into the ditch. The last thing you want is a head-on collision.
I was driving towards the dam earlier this year and came over the top of the first little hill, and someone was driving up the hill in the middle of the road coming the other way. Luckily he had enough time to move over. If he had been at the top of the hill, he would have hit me for sure.

No problem there. When I'm pulling the boat over the dirt area, my top speed is no more than 15mph. Don't like to clean my boat at the ramp before I head out. lol

Thanks for the article explaining the dam closure. i like that spot but i guess i will wait till it opens.
I have heard fishing at the bridge is good when the spillway is open..but that water moves pretty fast for me to do well.
