Had a fun day fishing ABA D-30 yesterday. Got to lake early for tournament sign-up and noticed that the lake was down about 2 ft. At that point I really thought that the fish would be pulled back so I started out throwing a crankbait and catching 1 short and caught a keeper on a c-rig lizard. I decided to explore the shallows before shifting gears and it was a good move. I started seeing fish cruising and rubbing against wood so I got out my flipping rod and starting pitchin and flippin shallow cover. Caught a 4 a 3 & 3/4 and a 7.14 lber and then another 3. I manged to cull several times helping myself by a few ounces on 2 or 3 occasions. Best 5 weighed 19.80 which was good enough for 1st place and big fish. All fish were caught on plastics except the short mentioned earlier. Congratulations to Sam/smalliemouth and Doodle/doodlelb49 on their nice bags. Our next ABA D-30 tournament is May 14th at Guntersville, Jackson County Park. I hope to see a few more of you there. The payouts on these tournaments will get sweeter if we can start getting 25 to 30 boats to show. This is a great trail with something bigger to fish for at the end of the road. If you would like more info on this trail feel free to call me at 706-280-0711 or go to http://www.americanbassanglers.com/index_aft.php
We have a lot of ABA members in the tri-sate area who are not using their ABA memberships to its potential.
