Sunnyside tomorrow
#1
Heya folks,

Not had the chance to fish in a week or so... work every day. Finally I get a day off tomorrow and I am heading to sunnyside, or Wayne E. Kirch to some of you guys.

Gonna drive up after work, catch some zzz's in the tent cot and hopefully be on the water pretty early. Supposed to be perfect weather and I have been jonesing to fly fish for some trout so ....

I'll post a report when I get back... may not be tomorrow though, cuz when I get back I have to head to the hospital for a sleep study.

I get to try the hat cam again, maybe I'll have better luck getting some good footage this time.

Wish me luck,

Enjoy your trip man [cool] hope you lay into em. Never been there myself but in my research it looks like there is a cluster of four separate small reservoirs in the WMA. Do the reservoirs offer a variety of trout or just stocker bows? any other species to target? thanks in advance and good luck.

Here are a few of the keepers we pulled out last summer. These came out of Haymeadow. While we were hitting the trout some guys on boats near us were pulling in LMB one after the other along the west shore line in the reeds. On other trips out there I have pulled in a few that were slightly bigger then the one on the bottom.

I posted my little video clip. If you care to watch it just look in my profile... it's my only video. The majority of my footage was corrupted and I couldn't open it, but I had this one little clip. Talk 'bout luck... this is unedited. I don't know what told me to turn on the camera then but it was good timing Smile. As a side note... that beer can in the photo was unopened. I wasn't drinking today. It was in my tackle from last outing with a buddy. Listen do that wind whip... that was the "calmer" part of the morning I talked about.

Also, if you are curious what a strike looks like under an indicator you can see the orange yarn go down before I set the hook. I catch a LOT of trout early in the year with this rig. Anyone who has ever indicator fished with a fly rod will back me up at how deadly it can be.

I'm glad I got something on that stupid hat cam finally.

I checked out the tent cot you mentioned. Looks like a cool set up for overnight camping. Set up time must be a breeze [Smile].

Sure beats having to set up a dome tent for one night and then tear it down the next day. While the tent set up is fairly quick for me, the tear down takes twice as long to refold the tent and stuffing 10 lbs of tent into a 5 lb bag.[:p] Which is why I take a few days to camp just to make it worthwhile to set up camp.

Too bad those tent cots run $140 (low side at Amazon) for the domed one. Little too expensive for my budget. That's gas money for a few fishing trips. Guess I'll hassle with the dome tent for now [frown]

Hey gnelson651,

I am really happy with that tent cot so far. I have only used it once so I didn't wanna start talking too good 'bout it yet 'til I see how durable it is. No matter how much I liked it, if it doesn't hold up it's worthless.

That being said here's the particulars. I literally set it up in 5 mins. Another couple of mins and I was in bed. If I remember correctly, the weather said the overnight low was gonna be like 31 or 32. The wind was blowing like mad, yet I was comfortable as could be. I am 6', 210 lbs and was really surprised at the room I had. Best thing was it took me about the same time to pack it away. I think I spent a minute xtra making sure all the dust and dirt was off the legs, but that's it. The dome in the middle is nice, cuz you can sit up in it. Something you can't do in other tent cots I've seen. Also the cot itself is large, roomy and comfortable and has it's own foam pad integrated in it. I used an additional cot pad as well, but could've gotten away without it. It's heavy enough so that you won't be hiking far with it.

I bought it for one reason. I tend to go to bed late due to my profession. With this I can drive up at night, set up fast and get some decent sleep for the next day of fishing. I too was worried about the price, but I am quite sure this cot will pay for itself in time. I am sure it will save me hotel/cabin/koa fees at some point so then I'll recoup the cabbage.

Good luck bro...

Every fish I caught was full of chironomids or midge larvae. They are feeding well Smile I hope you get one of those quality fish that eluded me last trip.
