After two days of clean up Lowdrag called and wanted to go and fish Douglas. We hadn't had time to fish any waters in up state Tennessee since we had been getting ready for the Nationals on Nickajack and spending some quality time on Chickamauga. Seems that we were not the only ones who wanted to fish Douglas. There were at least three to ten boats everywhere we went to fish. If you think that boats can be a little bit of a pain on wide open Chickamauga you should try it on a small lake where you can spit on either bank from the center of the slough.
It was a very nice day with a unaccustomed amount of small breeze. We were able to catch a limit and cull three or four times. Best five would have been about ten lbs. A nice surprise for Lowdrag was a smallmouth caught on the lower lake. I grew up in this area and have been fishing Douglas for 40 years. There was a time in the 70's that if a man brought a smallmouth to a weigh-in, he would have been severely trounced for cheating. "Probably went over to Cherokee and caught fish and then came back and weighed them in." It is nice to see some brown fish in that body of water.
Usually when you go to Douglas you can count on finding a C-Rig bite, today was a little weird. The fish would pick up the bait and just swim with it. You really had to be paying attention and noting when there was a difference. It was just a nice day, with a good friend, on a beautiful lake.
