LOS ANGELES – At the Outdoor Writers Association of California (OWAC) meeting in Lake County, on Sunday, May 1, Tom Raftican received the first place award for TV Show or Video, "Reel World Conservation."
OWAC honored outdoor writing, photography, video and radio broadcast work that appeared in 2010.
“Reel World Conservation isn’t the typical fishing show detailing local catch. The Show tries to take a real life look at not only fishing on the South Coast, but how those of us who spend time outdoors and on the water can have a positive impact on our resources”, said Raftican. “Locals have been fishing around here for more than 10,000 years. Yet today with more of us enjoying fishing and employing incredible technology, we need to work harder if we expect to leave things the same way that we found them. Reel World Conservation tries to lead the way,” he added.
“Reel World” is produced at Santa Barbara Channel 17, is directed by Greg Allyn and can be seen at 8PM on Thursday evening. The show has been in production for 2 years with Michael Nicholson handling floor Direction and Manny Ernst in charge of graphics. Channel 17 is located on Hollister Avenue in Goleta.
Founded in 1986, OWAC is a non-profit organization of professional outdoor communicators from California and surrounding western states.
OWAC now consists of newspaper and magazine staffers, freelance writers, book authors, radio broadcasters, video producers, editors, photographers and artists. Together, OWAC communicators reach an audience of nearly 20 million readers, listeners and viewers in the largest outdoor market in America.
