Hello folks,

Just got home and figured I'd post a quick report for you guys. We didn't get on the water until about noon or a bit after. My wife needed help at the school so she volunteered me. GNelson was kind enough to not mind the late start.

We drove up to Stewart's point and looked for a place to put in. After driving for a bit and finding nothing, and then almost getting stuck in some of that loose ground out there(thank goodness I have a 4x4) we decided to go back and launch at Echo. If anyone knows a good road down to the water's edge there plz let me know.

We cruised up towards Stewart's point and at the bay below Roger's Bay we saw some some topwater action and decided to check it out. It was sorta weird.. carp were jumping, but striper were definately working the shad, but unlike a boil they were spread over the entire bay just sporadically hitting here and there. They did this for most of the time we were there.

I used the fly rod and at first I was getting really frustrated. I had a 9wt sinking line on an 8wt flyrod... I have been telling you guys that I have a 9wt, but I forgot that my wife put a suitcase on my old 9wt and broke it and I had replaced it with an 8wt. Totally slipped my mind in my last few posts where I said I had a 9wt system. Anyhow you can go up a line size with a dry line, but not a sinking line. It was absolutely horrible at first. Finally, I accidentally smacked Gnelson in back the head with my fly.. so I put it down and started using the spinning rod. We started to get fish working close to the boat and I wanted a fish on the fly so I put my 9wt dry line on the rod and I was able to cast it just fine. I had one pretty large fish roll on my fly w/out taking it... maybe just maybe. Then it happened.. I got one smaller one on a dry... the hit was awesome.. one fish Smile.... and on the flyrod Smile.. I picked up one more on the dry before the topwater action stopped happening for a bit.

I switched to a spoon and jigged a nice one up. Then I caught the smallest striper I've ever caught.. boy was he small. Gnelson joins me and catches a really nice one. I started chucking a big swim bait and I caught a couple really nice ones with it. Gneslon finishes up our day with a nice one he pulled up on a crankbait.

I still don't have the boat rigged with the front fishing light so we decided to leave to get off the lake by dark. Good thing too, 'cause it was a windy, choppy ride back. Nothing too bad, but it looked as if it was getting worse. I think the guys this weekend are going to have the wind that was predicted Sad. As a side note, we didn't even get a nibble from a rod with anchovies.

Of course I had video problems today... it was cheap batteries this time.. I'd put 'em in the camera and they'd film like 5 mins and then die.... the energizers that came with the cam ran it for about 4-6hrs. Go figure.

Gnelson took individual pictures of our fish and he's supposed to email them to me, but I only got a pic of the catch at the end of the day.

Total fish in the boat 9.... 2 dinks that went back and 7 keepers.. I attached a pic of the ones we kept. The action was sporadic throughout the day, but we ended with a decent catch. And I got a couple of decent ones on the fly rod. All in all one of my better trips to Mead.

Gnelson is fun to fish with, I just hope he doesn't have too big a welt on the back of his head. That was a BIG fly.

Later guys,

Had a lot of fun on Telbone's Porta Bote fishing wise. Although Telbone out fished me 4-1, it was a good day of fishing.

BTW: You can call me Glenn... and that welt is only the size of a baseball-NOT. Good thing I have a hard head.

Hey Telbone, nice report! I was fishing down Stewarts Point last year and I remember seeing all type of cars on the shore, cant remember if it was to steep to put in, but it seems like all the way up and down people were camped out. Me personally I don't know of a good route to place down there other than the obvious ramp.

It does seem like all the nice weather is during the week and then when its time for the weekend and to get out on the water its always the worst weather of the week. Its like 6 sun's and then a storm cloud on Sunday's (days that I go).

Thanks again for the report, keep em' coming!!!
