33 Hole Monday 5/30
#1
Got to 33 hole around 6:30am. Parked in the middle lot and walked down to the main area. There were lots of people already setup and fishing. I started asking around how the fishing was going, and was told I just missed a boil. Some of the guys on a boat where pulling them in, but it was just out of casting range. I asked him where it was exactly it was and he said "Right out in the middle there, but none of us could reach it." I loaded up a 1/2oz blue and silver Bill Lewis rat-l trap, and was hitting the spot no problem, oh well. Those guys caught 4 during and shortly after the boil on cutbait, that was it. The striper moved out for the rest of the day after that first early morning boil.

I started at the west cove, anything more west seems really hard to reach on foot. Fished the first cove, then moved to the next, stopping for a bit at each cove, while hitting all areas in between. I switched up lures every so often, even threw a Scum Frog over the top of some crazy moss patches. Went as far as a could on foot then worked my back, no luck all day. I asked each person along the way how the fishing was going? Nobody was having any luck, just one fish here and there on cut bait. Total of around 15 fish out of 30+ people, and about 50 poles. A few striper, a few cats, and a couple carp.

This is the area I covered

These are the lures I was throwing.

When I got back to the main area, it was jam packed with people. I shot a little video, and counted the heads.

All these people and still no fish. Seven eight nine and fifteen are kids. There were about 16 poles out with cutbait on them, and no bites from 11-12

I got out of there around Noon. Just not much fish on this day.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one who sucked over the weekend. Fished Mead with no success for about 2 hours, got sick, and went home Sad

I feel things will change this weekend...

I hope there comes a time this summer where they hold up in some of the coves, for weeks at a time. Right now it seemms to be, day to day, even hour to hour. I couple guys said last friday they cought 30+ striper right near that popular point at 33 hole. Plus they rolled threw for about 30 minutes monday lol, but where not to found for the rest of the day after that.

In seems every time I fish Lake Mead, if I'm not skunked I only can catch two fish max. She is a hard taskmaster and being so big, reluctant to give up her bounty. Atleast for me.

sh!t i'm lucky if i get one keeper size striper on an outing. my first outing after moving back out here, i caught 4 18 inch stripers in the old boulder harbor jigging a 2oz crippled herring from shore, after that my next keeper striper was this year out at crawdad cove. since march last year we as a family, have only taken 7 keeper striper from shore, combined..but we have caught lots of catfish and a ton of carp. and i got one nice lmb (also at old boulder harbor) lake mead...She can be quite stingy sometimes [crazy]

Syn,
If you want to catch stripers from shore you need to use chum. Lots of chum, then use cut baits. Once they come and you are reeling them in keep chumming.

Or come to a Nevada Striper Club meeting and talk to some of us.

Meetings are the second Thursday of every month.
Bass Pro Shops @ 7pm. Next meeting is 6-09-11

Also the weigh-in is @ Lake Mead, 12 to 1 pm, Sunday at Las Vegas Bay picnic area.

cool thanx, imthesmf, i do think that i am not chumming enough, i usually only bring one bag of chovies, and chop up and chum about half of the bag and use the rest for bait. another issue is the bait i think. i say this because i can never keep it frozen even keeping it on ice, it gets all mushy and falls right off the hook when casting or right when it hits the water. i know someone has asked this before but has anyone ever actually used salt cured baitfish? we used to cure our herring in the northwest before fishing for salmon, it stayed on the hook 10 times longer than uncured, i wonder if it would work here for striper. too bad i cant get fresh bait around here. Sandy Cove sells Dry Ice and that will keep the bait frozen longer too. [Smile]

Cut the bait up at home before you go. Cut in sizes you plan to fish with then put in a plastic container add an attractant and freeze.

When you get to the lake just grab a piece you want and cast. Take about 10 pre-cut bags for the day.

2 bags of chum to start with, this should bring the stripers to you within an hour or less.

Then every 10-15 minuets toss a few pieces for chum.

If you don't try this I will continue to read your post about only a few fish today [:p]

You should be getting 20 to 30 fish days now, from shore.
Gov. wash is a hot ticket right now, top water in the AM then bait fish all day. Action will pick up around 4:30-5 and until sunset. The night bite will also produce fish as well.
