Finally, I got on the water this morning. Decided last night that I was going to go, hell or high water, and the water was lower that it has been. First thing I noticed was that all the willows had a bathtub ring, they have dropped DC about 12 inches.
Got to the Island camp at about 6AM and danged if there were not a bunch on the water already, have to get up earlier. There was a big crowd up north, so I started off around the ramp area, working the swim beach riprap with a # 7 Shadrap, perch pattern. Worked to the north and about halfway down the beach, got a small SMB, 8 incher. Continued on towards the
dle between shore and the Island, switched to a spinner bait and nailed a 11/2 pounder off a bush. Unfortunately, that was the last fish of the day !!
After I got the bigger smallie, I motored up to my walleye spot in the north end. Worked it with jigs, grubs, cranks, even dragged a spinner rig on a bouncer ....no takers.
Continued on up to the inlet working a variety of baits, a variety of cover, and just no fishies were interested. Checked out the river, water temp went from 59 outside the current to 49 in the current. No takers again.
Went over to the tracks and worked some shallow cover there, saw several fish on beds, but they had lock jaw also. Continued on down to the bend where the tracks go south and the wind came up.
Headed to the launch ramp to pull out and had to deal with a couple of knuckle heads that work for the concessionair. There were boats waiting to pull out and these two clowns were taking up the ramp, switching wave runners on two different trailer. Meanwhile, boats were being banged into the dock, people were waiting, and they were fiddelfarting around. After about 20 minutes, I told them to get off the ramp and let people recover. I think they were really shocked that someone got on them. I spoke to the gal at the booth on the way out and she was going to have the ranger have a talk with them. This is not the first time they have pulled this from what she said.
All in all, it was a good day !! The fishing was great, the catching just left a bit to be desired !!
The lake is in good shape, lots of water, lots of cover, we just need some stable weather to get things going.
Another interesting thing, no skiers, wake boarder, or jet skis on the lake at all !! really strange. Must be the cold water.
