Hawkins Reservoir?

I'm thinking of hooking up with family from Blackfoot and fishing Hawkins Reservoir. Has anyone been down that direction recently? Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated.

We're open to hitting up Chesterfield too if that's the hotter of the two...

well here is the real question do you want to fish on a reservoir that only covers around 300 yards or a res that covers many miles!!! Hawkins is very small and over fished in this time of year you would have much better luck at chesterfield plus the fish in chesterfield are much bigger!!!! Hawkins is nice but this is the wrong time of year to go there unless you want to join 20 other family's and be shoulder to shoulder on the bank or boat to boat on the lake its self!!!

You might check with Portneuf River Outfitters in Pocatello. Roger there might know how they are doing.

Right after Hawkins was stocked it got a ton of people fishing it. Now there are not as many boats on the water, but I am not sure how many fish are left either!

Chesterfield hasn't skunked me yet this year. Call me if you're down that way. Close to my neck of the woods.

Well I wish I would have read your posts before we left. Thank you for your input.

We ended up heading to Hawkins. We had a large canoe so we were able to get to access the entire lake. I saw first-hand what you all were saying: it's overfished. As soon as we got there, my family had some bites on worms fishing on the west side over by the willows. I was fishing chironomids just like I was out at Mackay a month ago. It was slow. I hooked up with two nice sized trout that must have been hold overs from last year I'm guessing. They ran on me pretty hard and wrapped my line around weeds just enough to pop the hook lose. Bummer.

So Chesterfield is fishing well, huh Coltergeist? If I'm able to come down that direction, what day of the week works best for you? Remind me when you're heading back up to Island Park?
