Spearfishing Redfish lake
#1
Here is a video I made of me neutralizing some suckers in Redfish last week. Hot spots are under the main dock at the lodge, fishhook creek inlet, and at the outlet. I also saw some FAT squawfish at the outlet but they were more wary. Like 5+ pound fish.

I have tried to decide what species the suckers are exactly. I have heard mountain suckers are common in central Idaho but the size and appearance to me suggests they are largescale suckers in Redfish.

And of course, Redfish plays host to a good population of bull trout. Saw several nice fish as well as smaller 6-8 inch stuff at fishhook creek.

Nice work! That was really fun to watch. Just out of curiosity... how many snagged rigs do you see when you're diving? I would imagine certain areas are littered with $10 Rapalas, haha! I'd buy a 2nd hand Rapala for a few bucks... just sayin [Wink]

I have seen a few, but actually way more when diving the river. The loss rate is much higher in the river obviously, and high traffic areas like Buckhorn Bridge and campgrounds on the river have a lot of snagged lures. I have pulled out a few spoons and roostertails before but not $10 rapalas yet Wink

Any thoughts as to what species they are??

Thanks

Sweet! what kind of setup are you using? is that a hand held spear or a bungee propelled one?

It is a homemade and very rough "pole spear". Meaning it is hand held but it is propelled by rubber under tension. Here is the concept [Image: lion_fish_polespear_lg.jpg]

The lake is really great... water generally pretty warm, visibility excellent, and fish plentiful! The salmon river video was taken right below the Sawtooth fish hatchery dam... kind of cheating, but so many fish there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k32JZ7xhbbQ

Cool stuff. Looking at wetsuits now. I got so pumped watching your earlier posts last fall or early winter and have thought about this for years. Not the spear fishing as much as exploring. Back of my mind a little lately and now at the front again.
Looking at the NRS Streamer suit. Glad you posted again.
