good luck getting LMB bass to bite at UL for awhile
#1
I witnessed at least 4 or 5 pockets holding multiple bass this morning, and all they were interested in were the baby bass/bluegill/whatever else..I did my best to imitate the action but they wanted none of it, there are literally millions of the little minnows and they are gulping them up Sad

I did get one to follow my super-fluke in a few times

Ya, I was at my usual Bass location at Utah Lake yesterday and noticed that the Bass Department must be on vacation. I could not see them in the murkey water but I know that they are out there. I did see the baitfish you were talking about cruzing the shore (also saw a muskrat and water snake). When the LMBs are attacking the bluegill I usually try the good old fashion worm under the bobber (size 6 hook) and when the Bluegill action drops off.....get ready beacuse the LMBs have arrived. Considering the LMBs have the eye sight of a human, the sense of smell of bear and the latteral line of shark.....it is a wonder how we manage to trick them into bitting. Good luck out there and worry not....the LMBs will be hungery again. Till then try fishing for the Catfish.

Try using a blue gill as bait that should solve your problem

That could create a new problem -- a ticket. Illegal to fish with blue gill (dead or alive) on any Utah waters.

Not to be rude but what page in the proc is that rule located? I have never used Bluegill as cutbait...but I have given it some serious thought (those LMBs like Bluegill more than us). I know lots of people who use White Bass, Carp and Yellow Perch meat as bait. Protective fisherman at Utah Lake told us that White Bass and Carp meat is illegal, which was complete BS (someone was just trying to keep their secret killer catfish bait a secret). Later on that night we caught the guy using White Bass meat. If it is indeed illegal watch out!!!! Those DWR guys are real sticklers when it comes to breaking the rules. The "I did not know" excuse will only get you a second charge (that costs more than the first offense) You don't want to know how I know that. Thanks for the information in advance.....much appreciated

Only the use of non-game species may be used for cut bait with the exception of white bass and perch. Bluegill are considered a game species along with sunfish and crappie as well.

Look on page 8 under Bait in the 2011 Fishing Guide Book. It lists all the different types of fish that can be used as bait and on what waters.

From my twin...

"Thanks for the information. The last thing I would like to do is get caught using a bait that I thought was okay! I will be sure to read up on page 8 and see you guys out on the water. Thanks again for the information."

I'm well aware of that, I just knew I would get a response out of it, I was waiting to see how long it took for some one to lecture me on something that was meant as a joke but thanks anyway [cool]
