I am looking for some advice please. Going camping soon and just want to buy a reasonable spinning rod and reel combo for some river trout fishing. Would like to get a 2 piece.

I am currently looking at the Pflueger Trion GX-7 Spinning Rod and Reel Combo at around $60 - please see link below:

Also looking at Shakespeare Ugly Stik Catfish Spinning Rod and Reel Combo at around $40 - please see link below:

Heard great things about ugly stiks but was a bit worried that it might be to long and heavy? Perhaps not. Haven't heard much about the Pflueger.

Any advice would be truly appreciated or any other combos I should consider? Many thanks in advance.

Happy fishing.

I have a Daiwa D shock, 2 piece 7 foot, 6 to 14,its a little soft, but looks great,I just got it haven't even broke her in,the reel is nice I have used the reel before but sold it for 10 bucks.Rod goes for 39 at bass pro,but my nephew saw it somewere online for only 20 for the combo, light light rod..tough decisions, good luck,I only got this rod cause I've never owned a Daiwa rod before.

Hi thanks for the reply.

My worry is that perhaps the ugly stik I mentioned would be a bit to heavy for some light river fishing? Maybe a light or medium rod instead?

Any thoughts on that?

Enjoy your new rod Big Grin

if you want something portable try the Pen rod it's telescopic and stores in a tube that looks like a pen,but bigger, comes with a 500 series spinning reel, baitcasting reels are available too, also there is a 100.00 reward for biggest fish caught on this rod,and 1000.00 for a record of any record species caught using the pen rod.Ugly sticks are heavy,I only own one, an 8 to 20 one piece. Here are three rods that can be easily stored,I put the reel from the pen rod on my nephews snoopy rod,and I filled it with more than 80 yards of 6lb suffix braid, last trip he caught the only keeper on snoopy a 12in hogfish. These rods are Paulpro approved good luck.

Welcome to the site MastarC, we have many boards on BFT that might be of interest to you, have you checked out your state board yet? As far as the combo you are talking about, it sounds like a good one. You can't go wrong with an Ugly Stick either. I'm sure those Zebco's would be fine as well, just depends on how much you have to spend[Wink]. Good luck on your camping trip.
