Hey everyone. I just moved out to Reno to start graduate school, and I'm looking for some good places to get some fishing in. I've heard good things about Pyramid and Lahonton looks interesting, but I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on where I can fish these from shore and any other good shore fishing spots around here. Thanks.

Pyramid is better in the spring for sure but it can be good from shore any time of the year. We used to go the on the south shore pretty much the closest areas nearest Sparks. There is lots of info on the lake out there and the little store just inside the Reservation where you get your permit has plenty of info and great pics of shore and boat catches. It is one of the better lakes out west for shore fishing for certain.
The Carson River can be good also.

I fished Rock Park in Reno just last weekend and was hooking plenty of trout. Browns Rainbows and Cutts. Bottom bouce a worm on the far side of the river near the falls and you'll do awesome! Use what ever test you want but add a swivel or something and use2 ft of 2-4 pound test as a leader then your hook and the least amount of split shot possible. Just skip the crowds on weekends cause the kids body float the falls and scare all the fish. So morning and night on weekends or any time weekdays.

Check out the Mason Valley wildlife area near Yerington. I fish it a few times a year and have done well for 3+ lb trout and large bass. A relatively unknown area near there is the Fort Churchill cooling ponds, some very nice LMB in there, have seen some pushing 6lbs. About 30 miles south of yerington is Desert Creek, good creek fishing there and never any people around.
