The only time I keep dinks is if I gut hook them and they will not survive. I hate seeing someone's gut hook fish swimming belly up, what a waste.

Otherwise I either CPR Catch-Photo-Release) or keep a few for dinner.

well I know in some cultures they keep whatever they catch and bring them home to feed their families, u get a mess of 4-8inch dinks boil them up and flake them off you got alot of meat. mix some cilantro, jalepenos, tomatoes, onions, and lime juice and you got ceviche, when I went fishing with my grandpa he used to keep everything he caught, one time when I lived in Coos Bay, Oregon, he came out and caught a mess of 3-4inch shiner perch, took em home, cleaned em, fried em up, and ate them whole. when I lived in Seattle I asked the Asian guys on the piers what they do with the small fish, they say they take them home and dry them out, make soup, or pickle them. I even knew a guy in Coos Bay that took whatever little fish he caught and used them for fertilizer in his garden.. I actually thought about bringing some of the dinks home and filleting them and having a fish fry, I already make strips out of fillets anyways, so if I took the dinks they would already be strip size. it kinda sux to drive all that way and go home empty handed especially when you're trying to feed your family. so maybe that's why people keep everything they catch. AND....

Killing the dink striper at Mead is reallllllllllly good for the population.

Remove the over-abundant dinks that eat so much of the food supply, and there is more food going around for the larger fish.

That means the average size of the striper would increase over time.

So, Don't release your small stripers ever! They do make good tacos.

Guess you don't want to argue today[frown]

But anyhow isn't there a over abundance of shad in lake mead? so why not let the small ones live in hopes of putting a dent in the massive shad pop?
