I was fishing on a party boat in Newport one year when I was a kid. I had the same thing happen to me, but it was pelican, and 30lb mono. Needless to say, he didn't break my line, and it took about 6 of us to wrestle that bad boy to the deck of the boat. Fun stuff.

Ya I remember fishing at the wash years ago ( when the marina was still there) with anchovies and I caught a duck or some kinda diving bird in 20 feet of water and this thing was not happy....it was a real pain removing the hook[:/]

happened to me this summer when i went offshore fishing in long beach. Hooked a nice vermillion rockfish and as i was bringing it up a pellican tried swallowing it. I was able to pull it out of its mouth. Then later during the trip, one of my buddies snagged a pelican and as they were bringing it aboard to remove the hook, it slapped me in the face with its wing. [signature]

Next time that guy needs to set up a photo session with that. A fast shutter would do! What an awesome way to stage a shot!
I have hooked a pelican while tossing a jakes lure. He tried to fly of but y 12 pound test brought him right back down. Luckily I got my lure back too! [signature]

I saw the guys at the pier yesterday catch a few of those deep diving birds/ducks.. Not sure what there called there black and white and dive deep.. Anyways they said they caught 8 of those dang things yesterday they kept snatching there shad out there.... Also read a story on allans forum of a guy who had a hawk or falcon "cant remember" snatch his plug.... The story was pretty funny the dude said the bird dove amd snatched his plug while he was trolling, and he was flying the bird like a kite trying to get his plug back while crossing his fingers a ranger didn't see him.... Both stories ended with the birds being released with no harm no...

Couple weeks ago had a seagull take my Super Spook and try and fly away, had 2 trebles in it one in the beak one in the neck. Brought it in and while removing hooks the damn thing flipped over on me and used it's feet to try and shred me, took a good slice on the hand that actually bled. Got um released but payed a price.
We have Bald Eagles at Silverwood Lake where I fish most and I've had them dive on my trout swimbaits a few times but they back off when they see it's fake, hope one doesn't commit! [signature]

Lotta years ago, 1959 to be specific, I worked on a drill rig in the Alaska bush. I had the chance to fish this creek that was just loaded with sea run Dolly Varden & managed to hook a cormorant. If you ever do that,BE CAREFUL TRYING TO FREE IT! They will strike like a snake & right at your eyes. That beak could take an eye right out. All I got was a nasty gash on my cheek just below my eye. Thank God for19 yr. old reflexes.
