went up to starvation yesterday in search of some of the so called starvation steelhead looking rainbows and some good perch. headed out by the bridge crossing and diddnt get there until about 830 am. i started fishing in 52 ft of water and right off the bat i caught a nice 9 1/2 inch perch then i caught 2 more abou the same size. so i decided to det my tent up thinkin we were onfish. got it up and dropped my hali back to the bottom and a little bit occured i set the hook and it was fish on. when i started reeling it up i knew it was big and had some weight to it but i knew it wasnt a trout since it wasnt pounding got it up to the hole and i had to scoop it out it was so heavy on my micro mini ice pole. a nice 13 inch jumbo perch that got me really excited thinking i was on a school of biggins but the closes in size the rest of the day were a few 10 inchers with about 15 8 inch perch. at around eleven o clock the perch bite died so i tried for some rainbows, or anything that wanted to play. in a group of 4 guys that iw as with we all caught our limits of rainbows in 2 hours and man those are the hardest fighting trout i have ever caught, they were screaming my drag for up to 15 seconds at atime rally cool and just a real pretty fish, so my dad and his friends started callin them starvation steelies everytime we hooked into one pretty cool trip since it was my first tme there. plannin on another to get some more good perch tablefare.

Nice catch, I fished Bunny gulcth and got a lot of small ones and a couple nice trout. Ice is still thin and could not venture out far.
Question:
I saw where trucks were parked just before the bridge to get down to the ice. Is that an easy climb down and back up for an older guy.

Nice perch man. Those are toads for sure. The eyes are tough to catch. I got into them a couple years ago. They are there just gotta be patient. I always catch them right off the bottom while fishing for perch.

We must have got their about the same time frame..
When we came off the hill I wanted to let the person know they left there lights on the car..
Anyway we got a few perch maybe 40 or so and the trout would not stay away, Rabbit gulch is NOT safe ice when you get off the snow covered ice the clear was maybe 1" at most yesterday morning..

I sat around all day yesterday wishing I had a good idea of where to go, and Starvation was rolling over in my mind all day.
Wish I would have PM'ed you or something ahead of time. Sounds great!
The trout. What depths and what lures? If I may ask?

Not sure if all the lake is caped but I would drill and look for my self if you don't see anyone on the ice or old holes..
We found ice that was about 1" , and a few days ago was open water...

Nice report JP1, thanks for sharing. So the road you took through Camper World is open in the Winter, I thought it was private property?

A well kept secret is out now. Not much parking room at the bottom, get there early.
