Currant Creek with the grandson
#1
I have some time of this week so I grabbed my grandson and drove up to Currant Creek. We arrived at the dam at 7:45 and after a quick look we decided to drive around to the north end. I am not sure how many years I have fished this water but I do not recall ever being able to take my truck on the road around the lake at this time of year.
We reached a spot that I have fished before and out on the ice we went. Because of the lack of snow the ice is slippery and looks a little scary. We walked out about 50 yards and I drilled a hole. 9 feet. Not the depth I was looking for. We went on about another 100 yards and drilled again. 27 feet. Nice!
Almost immediately after I drilled the pole holes my fish finder starting marking fish.
We fished for a total of 3 hours and did alright. My grandson caught 12, which is a new record for him in one outing. We kept 4 to have for a nice dinner and put the rest back for a future trip.
Note: do not put your camera in your shirt pocket.[frown]

The ice is 8 inches thick. There are numerous cracks through it and it popped and cracked the time I was there.
I never felt it move so that did not bother me. I had a bigger issue with trying to stand and walk on it.
There a a small trickle coming in the outlet.

We caught Rainbows, Cutthroat and 3 Tigers. Cutthroat and Tigers were 14 to 16 inches, the Rainbows were 12 to 14.
