got an earlier start at 8:30 but didn't hook up until 10:00. And, of course, the drum were the first to show. we continued to catch the usual mix of spot and stripe with the occasional tiny smallmouth. dad landed a nice one on a tube that went 3lb 5oz, and he also gets "the one that got away" badge for the day. we never saw the fish, but with a loaded rod the line came up twice, peeled some drag and cut loose. oh well. had it been a spot or SM, it was a nice one. we continued to catch fish until 2:30 when the bite seemed to taper off. turned out to be a comfortable day and we had a lot of fun with a consistent bite. I threw around a spinner bait with no takes. we fished tubes and grubs for the most part.
