drumking, Parksville, Yellow Perch, 18 Feb 2012, Bent Rod
#1
Rick and I made another trip to Parksville this AM to fish for Yellow Perch. Right off the bat, Rick missed one and then caught one. I then caught one on my first bite and then a small spotted bass. I thought - "This is going to be easier today than we have had before". Wrong! emoBang

We did end up with 8 small perch that I brought home to go in the freezer. We caught 3 spotted bass, all small. And Rick caught a fair sized bluegill. That was all that we landed. But the frustrating thing was that we must have had 40 to 50 bites and just couldn't hook up on those little suckers. emoBang All our fish came from deep water too. Water temps were 46 to start off with and ended up at 48 degrees. The fish were from 18 to 25 feet deep. 6 females and 2 males. Females had lots of eggs in them too, so they haven't begun to do their spring fling.

We were using different style hooks. I was using an octopus hook and Rick was using an Aberdeen style hook. We missed fish on both. We caught our fish mainly on "minners", but I did catch a couple on power bait trout worms. More bites came on the minnows though. There were no fish shallow that we could find.

That's it until the full moon phase. Thanks Rick for taking me fishing today. We had a lot of fun and good laughs, even though we both were terrible at hooking up on those fish. emoBigSmile emoGeezer
