On a tip from my brother, we started in the park on some scattered rock. Dragging jigs for an hour only yielded short strikes so we scanned the area and found the fish suspended. Randy made one cast with the A-rig and instantly had a keeper. Anxious to break my A-rig virginity, I made my first ever cast...about 60 yards straight up followed by a nasty braided backlash emoRedface. Cast #2 put a keeper in the boat. We had a limit in minutes then it was over. Moved on to a nearby flat and fished traps and caught dead weeds. Randy knew a spot in the park where he had caught them last year but, unfortunately, a lot changes in a year...more dead weeds with the trap. We then decided to move a bit deeper and target suspended fish on drops under the gulls. Made a cull on the A-rig and thought we were on to something. With about an hour to go, we picked up our biggest fish, a fat 4lber, on the A-rig in about 14 feet. Finished up where we started with a quick flurry on the A-rigs but the fish didn't help our weight, just our egos as the guy who had just moved stared in awe at our doubling up seconds after dropping the trolling motor emoLaugh.
Finished 2nd out-of-the-money...not a great day but we beat Jmax so it was easier to accept. Caught a bunch of keepers, just not enough big ones. Had a good time fishing with Randy and would definitely do it again. Although my shoulder feels like I've been pitching softballs all day, I can't wait for the chance to throw that A-rig emoSmile.
