Lake Lowell
#1
Took a couple hour run to Lake Lowell today. Managed to snag a few nice largemouth bass. Had a little luck with everything from plastics to spinners. It was pretty good for only being there about 4 hours.

I'm glad to hear you did well on the lake yesterday. I waded for a couple of hours in the evening and also found the fish very active. I had one memorable experience when I dragged a plastic worm over a log. A big fish jumped out of the water and took the bait on the other side of the log as it came down. It was great!

I'm having very limited luck. With no size to the ones I do find. Are they being color specific. I can't find the pattern lately. I guess I'm hopeing for some help. P.M me if you don't want to post.

Thanks-Justin

It's interesting that you ask about colors. Friday I fished out of Access 1 and tried several colors to see if it made any difference. I had molded some chartreuse swimming worms the night before and started with them. They caught fish. I then tried watermelon/red flake. They caught fish. I then went to my favorite pearl color and found they caught fish. I don't think the fish are color specific at all.

I am of the belief that the location is the key. You can fish one hole in the trees and catch nothing, but the next one is loaded with fish. Personally, I don't mind the 12-14" fish for I'm of the belief that if they are in abundance it's because there is plenty of food around. If there is food, the big ones are just around the corner, or just a bit deeper, etc.

You mentioned a waterproof camera a few days ago. I have two cameras in my boat and a pocket one that I use when wading. I don't really care for the "fish at arms length photo" like the one below, and use my pocket camera mostly for wildlife and scenic photos. This fish was 19", but doesn't really show well in this photo.

It was interesting yesterday. I threw a variety of baits from black Senkos, red spinner and my best bait was a long green worm with a chartreuse tip on the tail. I had no weight on that one, just a very slow dive and they would suck it in and start swimming away with it. I fished all around timber and trees hanging in the water yesterday and spotted a number of bass hanging under the trees but they were really spooky. Hope that helps.

One item I keep forgetting to mention about wading lake Lowell is that you need to check for ticks after walking through any grass. The ticks are very thick along the shoreline this year. One evening I plucked 5 off my neck while I was out in waist deep water. Last night I found 4 after I got home while watching the evening news.

Thanks for the reply smartweed I was out there Sunday Eve I found a pattern that was working on the smb. Perhaps if I clean up my technique they won't need the perfect color before committing. But for now if I find the perfect color I can get them to bite.
nice pic its not easy when you are alone.
I will post some arm length photos later just for you. [Wink]

You should think long and hard about repellent. All outdoorsy people should spend 30min Googling (CHRONIC LYMES DISEASE) its horrible and takes years to get properly diagnosed and is almost incurrable at that point. Do your Self a favor.

Went out Sunday morning from 8 to noon with my adopted daughter (as we call her) visiting from Montana. Water temp was 61 degrees. We found the Largemouth in 5' to 6' of water. Nothing in the 3' to 4' or the 6' to 7' depths. We managed to catch a few from 12" to 16" in length. Really nice firm fish. We flipped watermelon/red horny toads into the trees and brush.

Now all I have to do is give the GPS readings and y'all will be set for life. [Wink][Wink]
