I have a good friend that will be visiting this week. He really enjoys fly fishing for trout. I am going to be taking him fishing this week and am hoping for a great day of fishing. I am looking for suggestions on where to go? We typically fly fish streams. Any suggestions? As always I appreciate any input, thanks.

Provo River, Weber, or find a creek up in the Uinta's. If you want small stream, Cottonwood creek and Millcreek up on the East bench are chuck full of hungry little rainbows and browns. Caught a few Brookies out of Cottonwood last fall as well. If you want a challenge, hit the Jordan river for Walleye and Largemouth. The fish in the Jordan are hitting jigs hard lately, so it stands to reason that you can fish a fly the same way. I haven't been able to do it though... [:/]

Utah is blessed with some amazing salmonfly hatches that don't draw the crowds. My best guess is the ones a little south of SLC will be getting started in the next week. With the lower flows and warm temps this spring, if you get the rain to hold off just a bit it should be a tremendous hatch. Just don't make the mistake most do and fish early and head home before the hatch goes ballistic starting mid afternoon.
Other thought is chasing big cutts spawning with streamers and the browns that usually show up with egg patterns.
Shot me a pm if need some direction. I'm leaving in 2 days for almost 2 weeks so if you need pointed in the right direction I'll probable be more generous than most years giving out details to a handful of places I'd normally be considering fishing now.
If you get desperate and don't mind fishing next to a pasture I hear the middle Weber is still fishing well.

One of my fav spots is spring creek up in Charleston... It hooks into the middle Provo and you have tons of water to fish! I have found the best time to fish it is between 10-2 they hit hard during that time and it tapers off a bit after that. Try using Orange egg patters or rainbow warriors and sow bugs. This is a spot where the roll cast comes in handy because its not a wide area but it usually rewards you ten fold! Good luck!
