[cool]I fished at Hell’s Gate and Charlie’s Hole Thursday with Chris Fisher, five year old daughter Kayla, and her grandpa, Frank. Using live shrimp, we caught seven keeper mangrove snapper, one keeper sheepshead, and released twenty smaller mangroves and ten smaller sheepshead--Kayla caught the most!
Fishing Friday with the Chester Yanik party, 17-29 miles off New Pass, we caught three keeper yellowtail snapper, three keeper mangrove snapper, keeper Spanish mackerel and large porgies. We released lots of red grouper shorts.
I had an awesome trip bayside Saturday with Earl Millet, and friends, Rob & Pat. We headed up to the beach to catch shiners, then fished Estero Bay for a few hours. We caught and released nine Spanish mackerels to 22 inches (odd in the bay), on the tide line, by New Pass. We also released mangrove snapper and jack cravalle there. When the tide started dropping, we went to a creek mouth, and chummed the area. We caught and released twenty-five snook (one keeper-sized) to 26 ½ inches, and more jack cravalle. The group treated themselves to dinner by keeping two redfish, at 20 inches and 24 ½ inches.
The Chester Yanik party fished again with me on Sunday at the Bonita reefs, where we caught keeper Spanish mackerel. We’d been hoping for some goliath action, but the big boys weren’t around.
The photo attached is of angler, Rob, with a 26 1/2 inch snook, caught yesterday on a bayside Fishbuster charter.
