Finally got onto the computer to upload some pics, thought I'd share a report or two.
Went by myself on Thursday- it was great weather until I got there around 3. Wind was miserable- just huddled along the bank wondering why I came down by myself. I was quickly rewarded though.
I had never gone by myself before. Usually I have someone else with me, and once the clicker started to sing I wondered why I was alone haha! One little breach and jump from the fish and I knew I wasn't in over my head.
I try not to handle the fish too much. Just try to unhook, check for any line or stray hooks sticking out of the fish, photograph, and send them on their way. I grabbed this quick pic and said goodbye to a nice healthy 4 1/2 footer.
Things got slow, and I sat for the next 5 hours wondering if I was going to get dumped on (rain). I did manage a few bass and a sucker while the big pole sat. I went to pack up all of my stuff around 10pm, put the camp chair in the bag, picking up trash... then the drag started singing again. The first thing I thought was "@#$# my wife is NOT going to believe me when I'm an hour late that this is why."
Turned out to be a nice, big, fat, healthy 6 footer. I was done and exhausted, my back was burning, and I had no clue how to get the pole into the rod holder, grab the fish without smashing him into rocks, and get a photograph on my cell phone in the dark. So that's my 30 word excuse for no picture [:p]
Went again on Sunday 06/10. Lines wet by 7:30am. It took a while for things to get going- we had our first hookup around 10:00.
Fun little fish to fight from the bank. Things got serious when I took my pants off after this. Someone from the bridge whistled... and I assume it was at me. I had shorts on underneath... probably thought I was one of those beefy grandview beauts.
Its worth mentioning that all fish I've caught recently have come when the water levels are changing- or more directly- going up. Its like these big ol dinos know that when the water gets faster, there's a lot of food coming at them.
We hooked up with one more fish- this one was a feisty fighter, and nearly spooled me. I had to grab the rod from my buddy as he just hung on and stared at the sun... I pushed the lever drag to Max (something I rarely do) and thumbed the spool with 5 yards of line and grunted something non-biblical, but I got the fish turned around. I was thinking it was a 7 or maybe 8 foot fish the way it fought... nope, just a cranky almost six footer.
It is worth mentioning that while we were waiting the bass fishing was decent, we caught 1 trout, and the awesome fish (pike minnow, suckers) were everywhere.
Anyways, that was a long winded report... mainly got me out doing dishes and other house chores. *It looks like I'm working or doing something important*
Tight lines!
