Dropshot, Nickajack, Largemouth Bass, 6/23/2012, Wife
#1
Taffi and I decided to head to Nickajack around 4:30 on Saturday evening, do a little fishing and then hang out and enjoy the bats after sunset. We arrived and I quickly found fish busting the overhanging trees where the bugs were falling in the water. Used a SPRO frog, and after a few minutes, got a nice explosion and boated a solid 3.5 pounder. Fifteen minutes later, caught a second nice bass that weighed right at three pounds. Finally retreated to the grass, and started throwing a pegged texas rig with a big worm. Caught seven more largemouth, with the largest tipping 4 pounds on the scale. The best part of the evening was catchign the big fish while three boats had been converging on my location from all sides while I was catching fish and they were not.
Finally, at dark, we headed outside of the cave and observed the bats. This has become one of our favorite things to do in the summertime, and if you put yourself in the right spots the critters will be flying all around you. Headed in and witnessed a show at the boat ramp as two boats decided to rush in and load in front of us, only to demonstrate their lack of boat loading knowledge. If you don't know how to load a boat, then load up before dark. Thrity minutes and two crooked boats on a trailer later we finally were able to load our boat and head home.
A beautiful evening on the water with my lovely wife!
