I know these two places have nothing to do with each other, but I had the priviledge to fish both this week.
Meadow Lake: We arrived at Meadow Lake on Monday evening. There were very few people despite reports of heavy use earlier on the weekend. After setting up camp we got out and trolled leeches from the canoe. All my kids caught plenty of stockers. A red sparkle with black hackle bugger seemed to do the best.
In the morning the wind was howling and we couldn't get out on the canoe or float tube so we went on a great hike. By evening the wind had calmed a little. Went back out and caught some more stockers.
On the 4th we fished for a couple hours in the morning before going home. My oldest son killed them in the float tube. We caught a few more from the canoe.
I would say the biggest thing that we learned is getting away from the bank had a huge effect. We were outfishing the bank anglers by wide margin.
The campground was great, the mountain goats were awesome, and a great time was had by all.
Today I went with friends to float the beaver head near Dillon Montana. It was a beautiful float that I had never done before. We caught a few fish despite the heavy fishing pressure. Unfortunately we lost the hogs that we did hook up with. We did best with pheasant tails nymphs and PMDs. Tried some streamers got some big ones to turn but they wouldn't take.
No pictures right now I just didn't take catch anything worth taking a picture of .(Everyone has seen a stocker and small 12-14" browns.) I should have taken some more scenery pics because both places were beautiful.
