Green river rookie
#1
I had the oppurtunity this past few days to spend some time up on the green river. This is so far the most beutiful river I have fished and if you have never been you need to put it on your bucket list of places to fish. The drive wasnt as bad as I thought only about 4 hrs and you wont regret it!

Got thier thursday the 5th around 1pm after a short detour to the colorado border(missed our turn in vernal and keep going straight) Finaly arived and set up camp and of to fishing. Fished the A section first and boy is it amazing! The water was so clear and the colors of the cliffs and trees were awesome.

We fished the A section the first day till around 8pm and I ended up with 2 fish in about 5 hours and missed at least 5 more. They werent big at all around 14 inches but some of the most beutifuls bows ive seen yet. Both were caught on a black zebra midge under a caddis.

The second day we decide to go down to little hole and walk south to grasshopper island. A much easier hike, fished up and down the whole strecth with no luck at all, had tons of yellow sally's but they wouldnt take ours. Saw a few others catch a few fish but in our 4 hours we had no luck so we headed back up to camp to get lunch and relax a bit before heading back up to A section. We ended up fishing the upper A section just under the damn and almost right off hooked a good sizrd brown. And then another smaller brown on yellow sallies. fished it for a couple hours with just the two fish and then walked down A but no luck the rest of the day as it got really stormy about 6 till 9pm so we went back to camp.

Day three our final day we only had a few hours to fish so we got to the river around 7am and headed down section B to grasshopper island. The water was alot lower than the previos day so I was able to get a little south of grasshopper island onto a big rock. And it was on got 7 fish in about an hour with one nice sized bow that looked like a football. All fish the third day were caught on a tripple double in amber no drooper. That bow took me to my backing which was a first for me, he was around 18 inches and fat. Walked up the river back towards my friend and landed one more nice brown before we had to leave, man what a great trip cant wait to go back!

Sounds like a fun trip, I used to fish it alot more than I do but not a fan of the crowds and stunted fish. With that being said I will be up there in two weeks for a few days.

It wasnt crowded at all to my suprize. Camp grounds were empty and not many people wading in the river. Thier were a few floaters that came by but not a big deal. Weather was decent besides the rain friday night and a few brezzes throught the day but otherwise perfect!

One tip if you are coming from Salt lake City is I would never drive highway 40 all the way to Vernal to get there. Go I-80 through wyoming and cut down. I can get there in 3 hours and 20 minutes. 4 hours seems extra long.

We left from provo so thats why we went that way we came back through wyoming but their wasnt much of a time difference but the If I had a choice I would rather go through wyoming (better views), but both have their good and bad, almost wanted to stop at strawberry but knew what awaited me on the journey [Smile], their was a little pond leaving the gorge area on the left hand side about 10 minutes away form our campsite(firemans) that had a buch of fish rising, has anyone fished it before just wondering.
