Will this work? San Deigo Jam Knot on Hook
#1
Hello all...

I am new to fishing and I'm slowly learning everything I need to know, although with mistakes.

Yesterday I learned about knots and I decided I would use the "San Diego Jam" knot when needed. To practice making it, I went ahead and created a leader line on all my hooks and used the San Diego Jam on the hooks... Oops!

Today I learned that you are supposed to do a "Snell Knot" on your hooks. That really sucks because I probably did at least 50 hooks or so with the San Diego Knot.

Do you guys think I will be alright with this or will the hook snap off every time I pull a fish in?

There are dozens of perfectly acceptable line-hook knots. Some work better with different lures, line types or line test. A snell works for many kinds of hooks, but won't work for flies or lures, for example.

There are knots that are far easier to tie than the SD jam. Here's a website I like that shows all kinds of knots, what they are good for, and has animated instructions for how to tie them. I use the Duncan (Uni) knot the Trilene knot or the Improved Clinch to tie line to hook most of the time. The Uni is especially useful, as it can join lines, tie line to hook, make a snell or even a sliding stop knot for a slip bobber.

I use three knots.

Trilene
polimer
snell

if you find a knot that wont slip or break on you, use it. [cool]
