Henry's Lake Brookie
#1
I went up to henry's lake and caught a PR brookie on Olive Leach & Rainbow Scud Combo.

The beast was a shade under 19 inches and fat.

Forgot the net and it is a good thing I hooked him pretty good.

Nice brookie, sounds like a long trip for one fish, did you fish anywhere else while up there? or see any wildlife on your trip?

Nice work. Keep going and you might just luck into a non-sterile male with vibrant fall colors. Henry's brook trout are the stronghold of the fishery right now. Fine by me!

Nice Brook Trout-my dad and i are headed up that way and all the negative reports about henrys makes me want to fish somewhere else.
Does anyone know the area and direct us to some good fishing right now? I have been doing some homework on island park res and the henrys fork but any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Up there right now. Did two days from state launch. Catching is good along the shore line in 7ft. A couple 24" and 19" to 20" broilers. Just nothing bigger, but these will make your arm sore.

Hey nice job they are beauties up there. It's hard to beat Henry's in the fall. I have a good friend that is a Wizzard on that puddle and he sent a picture of a nice hybrid last week so it sounds like it is picking up. It is a long drive though. Thanks for the story. Later J

I fished the south fork of the snake while I was up there. Caught cutthroat after cutthroat but nothing bigger than 14 inches. Most were 10-12 inches. Caught a few browns too. Island park was a zoo, so didn't fish henry's fork of the snake.

I saw some whitetails and some turkeys and that was it.

I love floating the south fork of the snake. You catch fish all day long, but there are not too many keepers. There is no limit on rainbows or hybrids there. The madison river in Montana is pretty legit especially if you fish by the banks. I have found that in the South Fork and Madison that big fish hide underneath the bank.

Me and my buddy rent a canoe from BYU idaho and float the river and stop at the islands and hammer the banks.

Henry's fork is awesome, but the fish are pretty battle tested. I always see tons of people fishing it.

At Henry's lake fish the south side - The guys at the fly shops swear on renegades for Henry's Lake. I like scuds with a big fly ahead of it. Leaches seem to be the ticket, but wooly buggers will work too.

More the rivers I would suggest smaller offering like a rainbow warrior or smaller scud/midge/ anything you see in the water.

Spin fishing it also great on the river dull silver or dull gold seem to work the best, I think the shiny gold/silver lures are too flashy or too overplayed.
