Chasin' Chukars 10/13/12
#1
Well, I had to get out of the house to keep sane and get the dogs some exercise. So, off I set for the first chukar hunt of the year for me. Hunted pretty hard solo with my 2 dogs, and covered a face that usually holds some birds. Found nothing at all, besides a few deer and a rabbit. Just about called it a morning, when I decided to hike back to the top and check out the backside a little bit. Good choice, flushed a covey of about a dozen. Dropped one, but man did it fall forever far down. Could not find it for the life of me, even with my dogs. Saw about where the covey landed, so we headed that direction. I wish I could say that I let them have it once I found them again. BUT, I put the birds up a couple more times and whiffed on a lot of shots. All I can say is that I shot terrible, and wet chukar territory is brutal. Pretty easy to slip on wet rocks and cheat grass. Well, you know what they say: the first time you go chukar hunting is for fun, everytime after that is for revenge.
They better believe I will be back.

Good to hear you got out and at least got a little exercise. For both you and the dogs. They are for sure a challenge.

Decided last night that I just needed to get back out on the mountain for that revenge. Hunted the same general area, and saw more birds today, but in larger groups. Long story short, I got a little sweet revenge. Only on one of them, but the rest will get what's coming to them on future trips....
