started drifting down from the boat ramp around 9:30 or so and immediately started things off with a drum. then set the hook and had something take me around the back of the motor. leaned over to clear the prop and it came unbuttoned. never saw it, but felt like a pretty good fish, and it cut out like a smallmouth bullet. slipped one a crankbait, then a jerkbait. never saw them, and didn't have them on long enough to speculate. this day is starting out well. continued to drift and started putting fish in the boat on jigs, grubs, and jerkbaits. we wound up with a couple of good smallmouth, and two better fish at the end of the day going 4-7 and 4-1. the smaller fish really put on a show, while the better fish refused to jump. not once.
