General Description Benefits Supplemental Questions
Under the direction of the Boater Education Manager of the TPWD Communications Division, this position is responsible for performing administrative support and technical program assistance for the mandatory boater education program (Section 62.014 and 31.108-110 Parks & Wildlife Code). Answers questions about boating and provides program support for thousands of volunteers, game wardens and professional educators. Maintains a student and instructor database system. Responsible for confidentiality of sensitive correspondence and communications. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Group rules, regulations, and procedures.

Qualification Guidelines:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:<br />
Education:<br />
Graduation from High School or GED.<br />
Experience:
Administrative Assistant II:<br />
One year of experience performing administrative support duties; OR six months of experience as a TPWD Program Administrative Assistant at the Salary Group A9 level.
Administrative Assistant III:<br />
Three years of experience performing administrative support duties; OR two years of experience as a TPWD Program Administrative Assistant at the Salary Group A11 level.
Licensure:<br />
Must possess of be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class "C" Texas driver's license.<br />
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<br />
Experience:<br />
Experience in boating or Boater Education;<br />
Experience in advanced administrative support;<br />
Experience in office practices;<br />
Experience with scanning and data entry;<br />
Experience in customer service and/or public relations;<br />
Experience with training and supervising contract employees and/or volunteers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:<br />
Administrative Assistant II:<br />
Knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures;<br />
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;<br />
Skill in using MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook;<br />
Skill in maintaining accurate records and files in hardcopy and electronic formats;<br />
Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;<br />
Skill in maintaining flexibility, working with frequent interruptions and changing and multiple priorities;<br />
Skill in working efficiently and in a dependable, organized and productive manner;<br />
Ability to implement administrative procedures;<br />
Ability to interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures;<br />
Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;<br />
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality;<br />
Ability to train other staff in routine or related office practices and procedures;<br />

Skill of Administrative Assistant II PLUS:<br />
Skill in using and applying office practices and administrative procedures;<br />
Skill in preparing reports and forms;<br />
Skill in interpretation and utilization of agency policies, procedures, and state laws;<br />
Skill in identifying, researching, and compiling information for the public, volunteers and staff;<br />
Skill in preparing required documentation from drafts for travel;<br />
Skill in meeting deadlines;<br />
Ability of Administrative Assistant II PLUS:<br />
Ability to manage or coordinate projects;<br />
Ability to learn new procedures and systems quickly and provide guidance to other staff;<br />
Ability to work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Additional Information:<br />
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday;<br />
Required to work on holidays, weekends and hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as necessary;<br />
Required to travel;<br />
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.<br />
