started at 8:00 and it sure was froggy out, so we banked up close and started to drift. could hear boats putting around but couldn't see squat. not long in got the best smallmouth of the day at 4lb 11oz on a jerkbait. had one slick right before it. the fog would lift momentarily and then sink back down. all the while i was determined to hang in there with the crankbait, even though I've been throwing my arm off with no results. stuck the second best fish of the day at 3lb 14 oz on an XD6, and then had one that felt really good slip. soon after, Dad got a 2-8 meanmouth on a grub. we thought it was a smallmouth at first, but those things literally change colors right before your eyes. by the time we weighed it it looked like a spot. its gillplate is tipped with white, so I guess its still "mean". dad also had a nice one come unbuttoned on a grub. we never saw it, but the line was up and down, up and down. the afternoon was slow for us. either the fish shut off, or we simply moved off them. coincidentally had another smallmouth at 3-14 on a jerkbait to end the day. the water was up and running all day. surface temp was 49 degrees.
