I was trying to take a bunch of kids out fishing but that fell though, so I decided to take my wife ice fishing for her Valentine's Day present. We left the house at 11:00 am on sunday with my good friend and his wife. We got to CC Res. about 2:30 pm and decided to try for some trout, the trout size has been pretty good with average around 2 lb. We tried just about everything for 3 hours or so with not even a nibble.
We moved down around the island to catch some Ling around 5:45 pm, they were a little more willing to bite. Caught the first one about 6:00pm then a bite every 15 mins for a while and then it would die for an hour. We stuck it out until 3:30 in the morning, which made for a very long drive home.
The biggest we caught was 3 1/2 lb. We ended up with 10. All were caught on a 3" glow jig with a wad a nightcrawler. Some we caught jigging and some were dead sticking it. We moved quite a bit at first, trying to find the best spot to set up the tent, then finally just decied on a spot and gave it a go. We were staight across from the Island on the north side.
It was a pretty fun trip and a long one, but the wives wont forget it for quite some time. They complained very little for how long we were out there on the ice. I had a great time seeing them reel in their first Ling. Jake
