Rockport Perch
#1
Could anybody give me some tips on fishing for perch at Rockport? I've only ever fished for trout but haven't had a lot of luck lately, so I thought I'd give perch a try.

Fish deep out toward the middle of the lake. Keep your bait within 6 inches of the bottom. Try a castmaster with an ice fly 8-10 inches below it. Night crawlers or wax worms. That has been what worked in the past. I havent hit rockport this year but usually finding the fish is the issue. A fishfinder helps. Many times they will be on the bottom and you dont see much except the bottom seems to raise up now and again... Bumps show up.

Drill drill drill. That is the key to finding perch at Rockport. Oh yeah, and about 40 feet of water. If you dont find the perch in the first spot, move. Sometimes only 20 feet will seperate you from the desert to the oasis of perch.

Thanks for the advise, guys. That definitely helps. I've never fished at Pineview, but have heard good things. It might be time to check it out.

I would suggest it, rockport gives you bigger perch, but you catch a lot more at piveview, fish the south side of cementary point for small perch, fish right of the bottom in 35 fow, or fish the north side if you want bigger perch, do the same, fish right off the bottom, if you fish ten feet of the bottom you can hook into some crappie( if you are luck to hook a big one let me know). USe green ratsos tipped with wax worms. fishing slows down at about ten, then speeds back up at about eleven, eleven thirty

Different lake, but I kept looking for them deep, and not having much luck. Suggestion was they'd moved shallow into a pre-spawn posture (already?) - so we tried shallow, and waddayaknow - got on em!

So if you can find weedy, woody edge areas, try em!

G'luck!
