Bear lake 2-24-013
#1
My first iced fish out of big blue! Not a pig but it had a heartbeat. Didn't get on the ice until 11 which I will blame on my sweet wife. We fished in about 70 feet with the usual tube/ cisco combos. She had one on and lost it half way up which was a real bummer since it was her first ice adventure ever. I watched a guy about 60 yds from us reel in a good looking mac looked to be about 18 plus lbs. The guy was juiced, it was fun to watch and hear the excitement, reeling in a pig is the best high you can get. Beautiful sunny day, no wind, my ol lady and I didn't fall in this time, pretty dang good day.

Sounds like a good day. Too bad about the fish your wife lost. Nice to catcha couple but good to be fishing on a nice day, catching is a bonus. Thanks for sharing the trip.

Hope you're after the lady Cutts! And good thing you can hold that fish out and "make" it look big for the picture! [:p]

Guess it's a good thing your lady is a C&R angler, eh? I'll be hitting it again while we still have ice. I got some heavier rigs setup now. Gotta dig for some big tubes!

thanks for the post.

Nice going Brent - I didn't know you were a BFT angler - and a good one at that!

Looks like a pretty curvaceous fish there! Chunk!

Hey now, my elbows are bent, I can't help I have long forearms. As far as fish gender goes, I don't discriminate and I can't help what this eye candy attracts. +1 on the heavier rigs, I tried a couple new poles today and I think I'm gonna stick to my 7 foot 9 pool q's.

+1 on the 7'9, I got a 32" laker on a 26" rod, I was beginning to think I should have just hand lined it. But it was double fun, nice cutty by the way.

Thanks bro. Ice rods are fun but you need something with the backbone to bury that hook in those hard mouthed suckers.

amen to that - I think I missed for lack of a good enuf hookset... so - bring the med longer ice rods, put some decent reels ( drag?) and the new rig 4.6 Ugly stick, with an Okuma reel - two spools, so I get the 4lb red-ice line, and the other has the 20# ice braid, with 17# mono leader.

I'm ready to spank a few big fish! Enuf of the planter bows and panfish - I want some weight!!!!

See what comes. If nothing else - I could catch another sunburn.
