A short bass trip turned out to be my lucky day for crappie. I can't believe how lucky I've been this year especially with the dreaded...great white crappie ! I caught a personal best near my good crappie area...bass fishing ! I caught it on a 4" 6th Sense hollow core X swimbait of all things ! A boat was sitting in my favorite spot so I went past them to where I caught my bass the other day and realized...I left my fishfinder back at the marina ! I fished a little while longer but felt a little lost without it and decided to go back because nature was calling also. I head back out and start fishing fairly close to the area I've been fishing the last few weeks. I'm fishing my swimbait very slowly and then...alright, feels like a nice bass ! I thought it was a bass the whole time and right when I get it in the net I realize...it's a crappie !!! I was freaking out over the size. I knew it was big. I got a quick measurement and actually it was just a "smidge" shorter than the 15.75 crappie I caught on Saturday two weeks ago. It was "much" heavier though. Deb was about ready to get off work so I called to tell her to meet me at the HBSP marina and check this crappie out. I wanted her to get a pic or two since my 10-second delay seems to bleach my pics out. I did take a couple of pics while I was waiting on her. I just forgot all about doing anymore fishing and decided to take it to Hamilton's for the crappie contest. Woo-hoo ! It weighed a whopping 2.6 pounds. I got my picture made with it and I've moved past the 2.1 pound crappie that was leading as of today. I haven't really thought about the contest but I had an idea that this fish would be up there around the top and I was curious about a weight also. I'm throwing my scales away - they stink. That's why I've only been measuring fish lately. Here's a few pics...
