Fishing Report 3-29&30-13
#1
Went out to Lake Mead on Friday 3-29-13. Got on the water by 8am and went to the Vegas Wash. About an hour of casting nets for bait we finally found the Shad. After six casts we had about 40 shad, three of them were over 2 pounds. Next we had to find the Stripers the wash was barren no fish. Finally we found some schools but they had lockjaw.
Just before 2pm we got the first fish then another one at 3 and last one at half an hour later.
Headed home at 4pm, slightly sunburned and discouraged.

3-30-13 Hit the lake just before 1pm and ran back in the wash again. Found the shad just where they were on Friday, got two more big Gizzards. In about eight casts later we had about 60 shad and went looking for the elusive Striper. Picked up one striper over by the pump station by Gypsum wash. Marked a school of fish, set the anchor and chummed with a secret chum mixture and a few cans of corn. The back of the boat had two people and a case of the skunk. The front of the boat had two people with small jig-heads and anchovies. The guys up front started catching fish at around 4pm and had 10 fish by 6:30pm. Left the lake at 7pm with a Smile and a better feeling than the day before.

how are you catching the gizzard shad? casting net or actually hooking them? I saw them jumping all around on friday morning... but couldn't get any stripers to hit.

Got them in the cast net. They hang out closer to the sticks than the smaller shad.

When it heats up in Agust they will be up in the flowing water of the wash. Last year they were in 90 degree water, crazy, thought that would cook them alive.
