Sculpin Spawn at Bear Lake
#1
So I'm bored at work the other day and I came across this book on google books that's called, "Flyfisher's Guide to Utah" By James B. DeMoux, and in it he talks about fishing for Cutts during the sculpin spawn at Bear Lake. He says to fish the weed beds with sculpin imitations. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun! He says it's similar to casting to bonefish in the tropics. So, naturally I've been having visions of floating in shallow water on my boat and casting large streamers at cruising Cutts in the crystal clear waters of BL. Anyone done this? Here's a link if you wanna look at the book he only writes a couple paragraphs about it, but this idea has me intrigued. http://books.google.com/books?id=7fDxM6E...ke&f=false

Last year I caught a big 21" cutty at bear lake with a #2 blue fox. I hope I go this year soon with my Cisco friends in the freezer.

Nice. Were you wading or casting from a boat?

Wading but next time I'm heading down there I will be shore lining for some big fish searching for left over Cisco. Shall be fun. [angelic]

Whats shore lining? If it is what I think it is I bet using a surf casting setup would work well, so to get maximum distance.

I have caught the elusive BL Golden Bonefish with this tactic. But that was at a different time of year and was using a dinky egg pattern/carp fly. [Wink]
