Coyote Gulch Slot Canyon
#1
Hey guys,

I'm taking the older Scouts on a weeklong hiking trip in mid-June to Coyote Gulch, a slot canyon in Southeast Utah near Lake Powell. Some of the landmarks in the area are the well-known Jacob Hamblin Arch and Cliff Arch.

The Coyote Gulch slot canyon "ends" as it hits one of the long, winding arms of Lake Powell.

Does anyone know of any fishing opportunities in that area? I'm guessing that the water levels are low in that Lake Powell arm. I'd love to fish with the boys on Lake Powell, but I'm not sure if we're going to be close eneough to fishable bodies of water.

I'd also be very appreciative to hear any general tips from anyone who has hiked Coyote Gulch!

Thanks!!

I've never been to coyote gulch but by the looks of where you are going (Goggle Earth) you wont be anywhere close to the water, even on a good water year. Sorry.

raghorn is right. You won't have any fishing in that area of the world!

When you hit the Escalante, you could try your luck. You never know what you might find in there. You'd probably be better off taking an extra day and spending some time on the Boulder Mountain.

Thanks Raghorn and PBH! I was afraid that would be the answer. [Sad]

PBH, thanks for the advice on nearby places.

I have hiked Coyote Gulch twice, but it has been a few years. I didn't do any fishing though, so I can't help much in that department, but if you have any other general questions I should be able to answer them.

Have fun though, it's a great hike.
