Got out today at 5 with Alvin to scout some new crappie water. We hit a new to us bluff and stayed there all evening. The bluff was one that I had fished before for bass and rsimms and I scouted it last week and found a couple of decent spots, but not one Alvin and I had spent any time scouting. Today was the day.
The sweet spot Richard and I scouted last week was loaded. I think we got around 30 crappie off this spot with 12 or so keepers. Richard had fished it this morning and smoked them there as well. Lots of fish on that spot.
Idled down the bluff and marked another school. Took a minute to find the exact spot but when we did we boated 15 more crappie with 5 or so keepers. These crappie were right on the bank, if your lure did not hit dry rock you did not catch a fish.
Moved on down the bank to a small point and stayed there the rest of the afternoon. We caught one fish after another including some nice crappie in the 12" range. The whites were going wild in this are and we boated 22 of them while crappie fishing. Also picked up 4 spots, 4 little LM, a 2 lb smallie and 7 bluegill. The highlight of the day was the two skipjack we caught. They were both between 16-18 inches.
We decided to go for 100 crappie even and got there at 8:45. So in less than 4 hours we boated 100 crappie, 22 stripe, 9 bass, 7 bluegill and 2 skipjack. 140 fish got into my boat this evening and no telling how many more we hooked and lost. We stopped counting keeper crappie once we put number 30 in the live well but we had at least 40 or so. Awesome evening on the water and we had a cloud over us most of the evening which made is super nice and cool to be on the water.
I will say, the fist couple of hours were rough. I might need to install seat belts in my boat if we keep doing this. The crappie did not seem to mind however.
All fish came on 1/32 oz lead with anything chartuse and most fish were holding at 5 ft or so, very shallow in the water column.
